International UGRR Month Coming in September
On July 1, OTD Partnership and Outreach Manager Heather Ersts joined Diane Miller, NPS’s National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom National Program Manager, and Roy Finkenbine, Michigan Freedom Trail Commissioner, to conduct a webinar about how to participate in International Underground Railroad Month 2020. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan proclaimed the first International Underground Railroad Month in September 2019. It acknowledges the significance of the Underground Railroad, and all those involved, for its contribution to the eradication of slavery in the United States and as a cornerstone for a more comprehensive civil rights movement that followed.
