Tourism Advocates Rally in Annapolis

Tourism-Day-449x325

More than 200 tourism industry professionals were joined by Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford, Comptroller Peter Franchot, Secretary of Commerce Mike Gill and state legislators for this year’s annual Tourism Day on February 26. This one-day event brought together tourism leaders and elected officials to highlight the economic benefits that tourism delivers. Tourism Day was sponsored by the Maryland Tourism Coalition (MTC) and the Maryland Association of Destination Marketing Organizations (MDMO).

“Tourism in Maryland is a $16.4 billion industry that directly employs more than 140,000 Marylanders,” said Kevin Atticks, president of MTC. “Collectively, we are one of the Top Ten private sector employers in the state and generate more than $2.2 billion in state and local tax revenues,” Atticks added. “These tourism revenues ease the tax burden on Marylanders to the tune of $1,010 per year, per household.”
