August is Black Business Month

August is National Black Business Month, and we encourage you to support this essential business sector. The celebration first began in 2004, and recognizes the more than 2.6-million black-owned U.S. businesses. Black business owners account for about 10 percent of American businesses and about 30 percent of all minority-owned businesses. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that there has been significant growth in black-owned franchise businesses. According to the U.S. Census, more than 30 percent of franchise businesses were black-owned, up from about 20 percent five years prior. To get involved, support and encourage African-American-owned businesses in your community and use #NationalBlackBusinessMonth in social media correspondence.
