Civil War Trails Blazes a New Path in St. Mary’s County
Civil War Trails, Inc. spent the last few months working with a team from Visit St. Mary’s, the St. Mary’s County Museum Division, OTD, and the Maryland Department of Conservation and Recreation updating their Civil War Trails (CWT) sites. Besides normal preventative maintenance they improved the sign content to include new stories such as the amazing service of the “United States Colored Troops,” tenacious women, daunting raids, and one intrepid voter – just to name a few. This “fuller story” approach helps ensure that the County will continue to attract history travelers with new content while telling more engaging and relatable stories for visitors of all ages and interests. Additionally the CWT signs were moved around to improve the visitor experience, accessibility, and multi-modal exploration.
