First Lady Yumi Hogan (first row, center, standing) and Lt. Governor Rutherford’s wife Monica Rutherford (second row, center, behind Mrs. Hogan) joined winners of the juried competition, competition judges, and representatives of Howard County at the Paint It! Ellicott City reception. Artists from around the region took to the streets of Historic Ellicott City July 10-13 to participate in the plein air paint-out event. Plein air, meaning “in the open air,” is the technique of painting outdoors, directly from life.

The Howard County Arts Council, Howard County Tourism & Promotion and Howard County Public Schools presented the paint-out weekend. Paintings from the plein air will be on display at the Howard County Welcome Center until August 21 and the winning paintings from the juried competition will be exhibited at the Howard County Arts Center for six weeks.
