Dorchester County Site Added to Network to Freedom

On April 23, Second Gentleman of the United States Douglas Emhoff and Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland announced 16 additions to the National Park Service’s National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program (NTF), including the Lizzie Ambie Escape Site, a stop on the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway in Dorchester County. The site joins nearly 700 NTF sites across the nation, and becomes the 87th in Maryland.

Additionally, several NTF sites have added augmented and virtual reality components including a hologram of a reenactor portraying Lizzie Ambie visible from in front of the Bayly House in Cambridge where she was enslaved, and an AR/VR experience at the Stanley Institute Museum, also in Cambridge, featuring a Harriet Tubman reenactor organizing an escape.
