OTD Releases C&O Canal Tourism Research Study

OTD has released the results of a visitation research study of the C&O Canal National Historical Park, the eighth most-visited park in the NPS system. The study focused on the volume of park visitors arriving from outside the region, visitor behavior and preferences, visitor spending, and the economic impact these visitors have both regionally and on Maryland. “This research, covering two-years of C&O Canal Park visitation, provides insight into the people who visit this national treasure and the nearby communities to encourage people to enjoy this amazing place in Maryland’s backyard,” said Liz Fitzsimmons, Managing Director, OTD. “Research like this bolsters OTD’s commitment to evidence-based tourism development strategies, supports the efforts of our DMO partners, and affirms the value of the C&O Canal National Historical Park as an important driver for tourism in the region and as a cultural and economic benefit to all Marylanders.”
